That I actually a brilliant idea Trevor! And it really works lol Kerry
-
Yeah I know what it's like! I can take about 30 pictures of each bird and most still end up blurry as they never stop moving long enough lol Kerry
-
Lovely looking bird! I want one of those photo cages, it would be much easier to get a nice picture as you don't have cage bars getting in the way. Kerry

Hi Clare, lovely looking chicks. Keep us updated once they moult Kerry

Hi Stuart and welcome to the forum Kerry

Hi Saltrock, I think he is an Isabel... He doesn't look solid white like a CFW is and the lack of breast bar and tear marks indicates Isabel. He's a nice looking bird Kerry

Thanks for the nice comments guys I wish I had seen who's feeding him Trevor but it just doesn't happen when i'm watching no matter how long I wait lol. Richard, some zebs don't stop when you remove the nests. Mine last year were laying in seed cups or even just on the cage floors. It got to the point where hens were getting egg bound so I decided to put the nests back. I think it was my own fault as I was still feeding them egg food daily. Kerry

Will do Chris I have had quite a few enquiries about the adult one I have but forum members can have first pick. You will all probably have your own by the time I start selling any! Hope you have better luck breeding next year Kerry

Chris, I do cage breed but only have 12 breeding cages. I do have a pair of BCBB in one at the moment but they have only recently been paired so nothing from them yet. Most of my cages are being used as a temporary quarantine for the birds I got from Stafford, then I will have finished for the season so I don't expect to breed anymore this year. However, last winter my birds refused to stop laying so I ended up putting the nests back in and they produced quite a few chicks. Kerry

Thanks Chris, I knew there was a pair in the flight that had produced one before but I didn't know who it was. So I just left them all to it hoping for some more. Sure enough this one appeared I still don't now who he belongs to though! Kerry

The only other BCBB cock I have bred had no cheeks until after the moult so I was surprised to find this little one. I cant wait to see what he looks like after he moults... http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l41/whitecharmer/fawn/100_5429_zps5c64df63.jpg Kerry

Hi Mitch and welcome to the forum. It's nice to see someone else from Essex on here, there's not many of us Kerry

Hi Chris, the pink is still there with no signs of any fading. I am pretty convinced it will always be there. If/when she starts laying I will keep you updated on what happens. It might not be until next year though as I don't have any lighting in my shed and I have all but finished breeding for this year. Kerry

Hi skm and Chris, I never thought to use her as a foster, that's a good idea. She doesn't have a song just beeps like a zebra finch hen does. The only thing that seems different about her (other than her pink tail) is she seems much more active than my zebs. This could change once she has settled in though and I have never kept firetails before so I don't know what would be normal behaviour for them. I wouldn't want to put her in my aviary as I am having a hard time keeping track as it is. If she does turn out to be fertile I would want to know which chicks are hers so I don't sell them as normal zebs and could let the buyers know exactly what they are getting. I wouldn't want someone to feel duped like I did. Kerry
