  1. Pleased for you Trevor. Planned results are always good but for me this year unplanned results were a fantastic result. Cheers Andy
  2. Welcome to the Forum Neil and welcome back to Zebie keeping. Enjoy!!. If you could get across to Stafford on 5th July you might see some birds you'd like. Andy

  4. Welcome to the forum Jeff. You'll not be short on answers to your questions and there are lots of members who could help with colour mutations. (but not me I'm afraid) Are you known as 'Stripy' or 'Jeff' ? Andyn
  5. Emmy, Who's hen house is that? It's nearly as big as my Bungalow. :-)

    Hecks ---- The 2Nd Batch!

Well it might be just Human to think. 'Hang on a moment! when I got off the nest there were just eggs, now there are chicks but where's the shell?' I tend to do that if the chicks are just minutes old but when older I put the fostered with the chicks from the foster nest and gently move them around to get smells on the foster chick. (I did it with the Budgies and still do it) BUT I have to admit to never having Bengalese as fosters so there is probably no problems. Hope all works well for you Emmy Andy

    New Pied.

My kind of Bird too. I have tried breeding Exhibition to Pet size in a former life but was never really happy with the outcome of any chicks and they ended up in Garden aviary. I believe there will usually be at least one chick that is a better quality than the others though. If you are breeding a Normal Pied to a Fawn Pied the male chicks will be split for Fawn and if you pair them to Fawn hen next year you should get fawn cocks. It'll be interesting to see if your new Pied is split for any sex linked. It might already be split Fawn. I had Light Back pied hens appear last year and spoke to the breeder of the Pied male father who said he had some appear too from my cocks brother, but I guess if you buy from a shop then you don't have the breeder to ask. BUT if your new Pied has a ZFS ring on you should be able to trace the breeder.(if you want) Hope I'm not teaching Granny here. As an aside, I bought my first pieds from a garden centre and they won in a show. So you never can tell. Andy

    Hecks ---- The 2Nd Batch!

Question??? Did you put any of the egg shell in the nest when you transferred the chicks from the incubator.
  9. Yeh! but just think of all those lovely daily fresh eggs when they start to lay. If we lived close I'd put my order in now. :-) I keep saying that when the Rabbits go I would like a Chicken or two. But NOOO! rats is the answer I get. ( hang on, what's the difference between a Rabbit run and Chicken run or the ones that come to the bird feeders) (Logic?) You'll have to weed out the cockerels though or you'll be incubating hens eggs I can see. No doubt you'll enjoy your chicks. Andy
  10. Don't know anything about Creams but they look smart to me. what is the 'Twist' then?
  11. I hate to say this Emmy, but with eggs disappearing and now the D'Dove chick Have you got an unwanted guest in your flight? ( I'm thinking a Roland or even stoat/weasel. I know birds will eat their eggs at times but do you have carnivorous birds? Chickens might think the little chick is a caterpillar though, if they are in the flight. Very perplexing I must say. Andy
  12. You've done it again Emmy! Fascinating reading. It could only happen to 'The Bird Lady'
  13. Well!! Happy birthday to you both then.

  17. Again, another interesting Blog Emmy. Was it too cold to put the fed chick back in the nest to try and get parents to take over again? Well done you!! Andy
  18. That's so sad Emmy, I think you gave Hamish a chance at life which he might not have had if left with Parents. Onwards and upwards, there are still lots of your birds requiring your love and attention. Andy

  20. Looking Good Emmy, I did think you might be a bit too hopeful about the Bengalese, but you never know. Lucky Chick to have your perseverance for it's welfare. All things are crossed for it's survival. Good luck..
