Bc Fawn Chick?

Recommended Posts

Would this be a BC fawn, I have never seen one before so a bit unsure.

The Hen I know carries the BC gene.

Also would both parents need to be carrying fawn or can it come from the hen alone?

Hi Trevor,

The Hen is an Isabel/BCOBBB & the cock should be Normal/BBOB & Isabel.

The two other chicks in the nest are what I would expect, but they have not produced a fawn before.

They are an aviary breeding pair, so there could be another cock involved :fool:

hi clare

it has some form of cheek patches you would get on this mutation but not as bold as expected but that mite

change after it moults out. are there any other bcs in your aviary or bc/fawn that she could have mated with

for you to get a bc fawn is your hen a fawn Isabel as well because that would help in sexing the chick aswell

Hi Richard,

As far as I know only Normal/BC Cocks, And fawn Hen/BC, They have bred this year so I know this is correct.

The Isabel Has produced cream, this is a dilute fawn? If so then she will be Fawn Isabel.

How does this help to sex the chick? Sorry bit thick when it comes to these matters, still trying to get my head round them.

if your female was a normal Isabel and the male she mated with was either fawn or split fawn then all fawn chicks would be female

from what you say then one of your males must be split for fawn and could it be possible that your fawn /bc hen had laid a egg in there nest?

Richard

p.s if the bc hen has laid in there nest  then the chick could turn out to be any sex

hope this helps

Hi Richard,

I was very confused last year, lots of first time colours.

Still trying to get to grips with them, seems this year will be no different.
