jonmpope 52 Report post Posted July 14, 2013 Here's a few snaps of the best two silvers I've bred this year having there first time in a show cage. They are from a silver cock mated to a light back hen so are siblings. As you can see they still have dark patches on their beaks and the male is yet to moult his cheek patches but they seem a pretty decent match colour wise- well to my novice eye anyway! They just need to continue growing and hopefully I might be able to show them.

Clare L 175 Report post Posted July 15, 2013 Hi Jon, That's a nice silver cock, the cheeks should match the flanks for colour when they moult through. This is just an observation I have made from my own silvers though. Hope they do well for you. My lightest silver has chicks at last can't wait to see the results, I'm really hoping they are like him white cheeks and a much smoother overall colour. jonmpope 52 Report post Posted July 16, 2013 Hi clare good luck with your silver light back chicks. The two I recently hatched died. I think they were smothered by the parents combined with the heat wave. Dan thanks for your comment
Clare L 175 Report post Posted July 20, 2013 Hi Jon, Sorry to hear that. It has been very hot and I have had my shed door open every day for them. I'm pretty sure if I didn't do this I would have lost a lot of chicks. Hopefully they will go down again and be successful for you. All the best Clare
