geekgirl101 1 Report post Posted November 5, 2014 Hello, I've been keeping zebra finches and canaries for about 13 years. Back in March after moving house I was down to 1 male finch that I called Cheeky as he has 1 orange cheek and 1 white cheek, so I bought some new finches from a local breeder. I adopted a fawn female, a white female, a crested male, and one very dark but beautiful male. A week after adopting them the crested male died from unknown causes. At the time we adopted her the white female was missing feathers on one of her eyes. The breeder said she had been attacked by some other birds she was housed with so I didn't think anything of it at the time, but since living with us we've had to put her in a hospital cage as her condition worsened and was later discovered she had an eye and prenal gland infection, so she's being regularly treated for it. The other birds however are doing very well... too well in fact! The fawn female mated with Cheeky and gave birth to 2 beautiful looking fawns, one male and one female. The male fawn has a splayed claw which I'm trying desperately to get right, but he's a stubborn bird and keeps pulling off the splints and plasters. I've also had 2 more new additions recently, I've no idea who the parents are but my guess is it's the same pair as the others I think are too young to start breeding and they're sleeping in the nest farthest away from the new chicks whilst the adult fawn female and Cheeky are perched just below it.
Andyn 534 Report post Posted November 6, 2014 Hi Melanie, and welcome to the Forum. When you said splayed claw did you mean the foot/leg or is it a back claw that goes forward under the foot when perching. (Slipped Claw) Anyway, Enjoy the forum.
