  1. Couple of weeks ago I made the decision to remove a hatchling from a caged pair because it wasnt being fed. I put it into an aviary nest where another chick had recently hatched. The good news is that these two are now ready to leave nest. The bad news is I dont know which is which. I removed the chick from a pair of LB BF/cfw Cock & fawn BB hen. I placed it into a nest which was run by a normal grey hen (cock unsure). These are the two chicks! There is no CFW cock in the aviary and I do not think there is any split cfw in there! But it looks like I will never know which chick came from the caged pair. Life's never simple!
  2. Yes Emmy, they both must have been split OB but you wouldnt have thought it looking at the male.
  3. I am also guessing that the white in the wing will mean pied Emmy ;-) I think the black chest comes from the Black face mutation. The father bird did not have this but I 'think' proper BF do. This really is a mixed up bird genetically but I like it, The parents of this bird also gave me my first orange breast but I then lost the mother! :-( Thanks Scott
  4. Hi all Just thought I would share what is quickly becoming one of my favourite birds now it is fully coloured up. This bird came from the only BF bird I had (and it wasnt the best BF to start with). The mother bird was a Crested BB fawn. The cock was a BFLB/pied. Based on this, this bird should be split BB but I can not see any obvious BB visuals in it? Thanks for looking Scott
  5. lol. just had to go and have another look at the bird......not purple......they dark brown/black almost
  6. Hi all Just put two pairs in breeding cages in house. Curious of what colours I am likely to get. Still learning the colour descriptions but I think Pair 1 is Fawn BB hen(crested) x FF(isabel) cock Pair 2 is Isabel hen x Phaeo cock. Are my descriptions correct? I have played around with the zebra finch calculator but am still not sure what I would get from these? Thanks for looking Scott ps......only just put these together. All my birds are pet shop size and I just breed for colours/fun. I have a few different colours within the outdoor aviary so if you think I would be better pairing the pictured bird to something different then please suggest.
  7. Lovely lightbak male you have there. The 'lightback' gene reduces the orange cheek to more of an apricot colour. Scott
  8. looking like horizontal but very faint at the moment!. Will see how it turns out! Thanks Scott
  9. Here are 2 more pics to view Trevor. it does look a little rough and ready at the moment but I do not yet see tear drops. Scott
  10. Trevor One of the two white birds does not show a visible tear drop marking. Can it be anything other than cfw based on this pairing?
  11. Hi all Just thought I would share pictures of one of my pair of zebra's that are cage bred. I have requested colour predictions for this pair in recent posts but the young have just left the nest so thought i would show you the outcome. adults are Fawn lightback blackface/pied or cfw cock x Fawn BB crested hen Not 100% sure on exact descriptions of young but can confirm all 3 are crested!
  12. I would agree with Paul. Closer picture would be better but it does not look like a cfw from this view..

    Bc Fawn Update

Hi I too have had my first BC fawn fledge from my mixed aviary. Can't say I was expecting it from who I thought the parents were but Its deffo staying within the collection! Only flegded in last few days.
  14. Hi Trevor Thanks for you input. The two crested have been split up tonight. I had read previous threads and information from other sites that suggested two crests should not be paired but as I had bought them like that and they were raising the young already, I have only just managed to seperate them.........though they dont seem too impressed with me at the moment!. All my birds where aviary bred before but buying these breeding cages with theses birds has opened up a whole new challenge for me. The pair that have created the fawn isabel are staying together as I would love a crested fawn isabel. Only the hen is crested in this pair. I have now paired up the crested fawn bb hen to what i think is a Fawn BF Light back/cfw. Thats a genetic challenge someone could help me with??? I am also going to bring what I think is a cfw/bc hen and a cfw/bc cock out of the aviary to aim for a nice cfw bc!. Thanks Scott
  15. Hi all Do you agree with Michael above with regards to the isabel fawn chick? Will both parents be split isabel or could it be just one? Is the isabel completely hidden in them or is there a clue to them being split? I am going to keep the pair together and hope that I can get a fawn isabel 'crested' in the next nest. Thanks Scott
  16. Love this Pair of zebra's. Just taken them out of the aviary to put them in a breeding cage. Had various coloured chicks from them in the aviary before but they could have been unfaithful. lol. What could I expect from this pairing assuming there is no hidden factors? Thanks Scott
  17. Better than I thought then. The Pair that are both crested have produced what looks like two young bb fawns that are also crested. See pic. I have now got a lot of organising to do in the cages and aviary. Some of these will have to be sold on I think especially with the young ones amongst my aviary.
  18. Bought a mixed bag of goodies yesterday and pleasantly surprised. Saw an add for a couple of canaries, couple of bengalese and a couple of pairs of zebras. Wanted some new blood in my aviary and needed two hen canaries so I bought the lot. A long distance photo of the cages showed some coloured zebras of which I could see were different to the colours i already had. Not sure the previous owners had a lot of knowledge about them. Upon collection and studying, I think all 4 adult zebras are black breasted. 3 of them are also crested. And both pairs have young which are just fledging. Fortunately, I transported them home in their breeding quarters and they are all doing fine. One of the young from the pair though looks to be all white or cream. Not seen it properly yet tho. How would I get this colour from what looks like a fawn BB male and a fawn BB crested female??? Hoping to add some pictures soon! :-)
  19. I wish I hadn't posted this pic :-(. Fate dealt me a cruel blow and i lost this bird last week. gutted not the word! Scott
  20. sorry mister finch, my cock silver bc was bought in with no history of parents. Got a lovely silver hen from it though. Great bird. Scott
  21. ooops. forgot the 'black cheek' silver!
  22. Looks very much like one of my males which PaulM described as a silver cock below! :- Scott
  23. Hi Paul My instant reaction was Florida fancy for the bird on the left. I would assume you to be correct with your description, so, out of curiosity......whats the diference?

    Flighty Timor's

Thanks for the offer Mark.......I only actually have an aviary of mixed zebras so it would be unfair to add them to this. As others have said though, I think they should be on show as long as possible before you sell them!!! Scott
