  1. Welcome to the forum Sarah. We won't hold it against you for being Kev's daughter From little acorns great oaks grow. Plenty of members keep more than just Zebra Finches. We have Canaries and Bengalese as well as a couple of Budgies left over from when I changed to Finches 18 months ago. Anyway, enjoy the forum!! Andy
  2. Hello Kev and welcome to the forum. Like Baz said there is always someone who can answer your ??. That aviary sounds good too. I enjoy fishing but not into football. Anyway.. Enjoy!
  3. Many happy returns of the day Allan. Hope you have a good one. Andy.
  4. Welcome Liam, I think you have come to the right place to get info before starting on Exhibition Zebies. Enjoy!!! Andy
  5. Hi!, Both parents had to carry the Pied gene as it is a recessive gene. If you can't get a Pied hen you could try a hen that is carrying Pied. Only some chicks could turn out Pied and you would get other colours too, but all would be carriers of Pied. Andy (Pied lover)
  6. WOW! Looking good! I'm into Pied too and have been advised to introduce White to help get the 50% colour break in cheek patches, tear drops etc. Welcome to the Forum as well. Were your photos from a phone or a camera? Andy
  7. Nice!! My type of bird too. Only 3 on the sticks but 10 in nests so far. Might even get some for BBE this show season. Andy
  8. Hi Bee, I kept CPQs in a similar size aviary with Canaries about 25years ago. (But not indoors) I boiled the eggs and mashed them with wholemeal digestive biscuits and fed it to Canaries as a soft/egg food. Toast size fingers would probably be matchstick size. Andy
  9. Yes happy Birthday. Are you retiring too? Best thing I ever did 2 months ago. Andy
  10. Emmy, Sorry to be a barer of disappointment but that is a Bengalese Finch.. Just looking at the beak with it's two colours. OR you posted the wrong photo. Andy
  11. Welcome Carl, I'm in the 2nd county most furthest from you but I think the members up your way will be letting you know who they are. Enjoy!! Andy
  12. Chris, Sorry I missed you yesterday but happy birthday. Andy
  13. Happy Birthday Kerry, Several of 2014 chicks say thank you too. Andy
  14. Bee, When your birds are really settled in you will probably be able to identify each cock bird by it's call. We have 'What's Up, What's Up' another is 'Pieces of Eight, Pieces of Eight' and you'll also get machine gunned with Eh,Eh,Eh. I could go on but I'll let you find out. Andy
  15. Hi Chris, Welcome to the forum. Ask your questions and I'm sure you'l get an answer from members. Anyway.. Enjoy!! Andy
  16. Hi Bee, Welcome to the forum. What a great story. I'm sure your questions will be answered. I can answer a few.. Yes, a Budgie bath is good and they will enjoy bathing. They will be individuals so some will/might not bathe so often. Slice of apple or pear and even a segment or two of orange would be enjoyed, Green leafs BUT not too much lettuce. (goes straight through if too much) They would probably like egg food called EMP or other brands. (You can buy some in Pets at Home) I think Zorro is a 'Normal', Zadok is a 'Black Cheek Normal' Zaphod is a 'Chestnut Flanked White' & Ziggy looks like he is a 'Fawn' (can't really see enough colour) Anyway.. Enjoy our hobby and ask away because there will always be someone who can help. Andy
  17. To my mentor and friend. Happy Birthday. Andy
  18. Scott, Seems I'm not the only one that gets these types of problems when fostering. But I guess you have at least one cock bird in your aviary that is split CFW. then. When you breed the chicks back next year will the one from LB BF/cfw throw anything that will identify her parentage? Assuming that you don't have anything in the aviary that's the same colour/spits etc. Andy
  19. Roy, Welcome to the forum and hope all works out OK with your plans. I must ask a question about the Greenfinch though- Is it captive bred and close rung? I only ask, as you said you have a limited knowledge of bird keeping and you wouldn't want to be 'Knocked' by RSPCA. Don't want to scare but it's worth bringing to your attention. Anyway.. Enjoy!! it's a great hobby. Andy N
  20. Thanks for that Emmy (any significance in the 6 as above?) We aren't going to breed any canaries this year. We have enough at the moment. Fingers X'd for yours though. All the best Andy
  21. Nice young Emmy, Like Trevor I spotted the fawn hen but thought it might have a grey head and chest, Was that a trick of the light? Andy
  22. The whole day was first class Emmy, and I'm certainly very proud of our 3 children and the 8 grand children. Got beat at ten pin bowling by son-in -law who got a double strike on frame 10 with a spare. Andy
  23. Thanks Paul, The day and evening was pretty good. Andy
  24. Zebie Themed Birthday cake. Marzipan Zebie roosting in a mug tree The lady who made the cake didn't even know what a Zebra Finch was and I understand she had to look it up. But I thought she did a damned fine job for first time Cake was delicious too. Andy N
  25. Trouble with that though Emmy is that when you do wake up after the second time, I feel all hung over like this morning, but without the alcohol the night before. Cheers
